Silas Anthony Givens Jr.

Silas Anthony Givens Jr., 84, passed away unexpectedly on January 16, 2022, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Silas was born in St. Petersburg, Florida on September 25, 1937, the son of Silas Givens Sr. and Beathel Cutler Givens Harris. He graduated from Gibbs High School, Class of 1955. Following graduation, he attended Florida A&M University. He was an Army veteran and served in Japan during the Vietnam War. After leaving the U.S. Army, Silas worked as a medical technologist for several hospitals in the St. Petersburg area. He later relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where he was a member of the Jacksonville Jazz Society and an avid Jacksonville Jaguars season ticket holder. He was a member of the Woodlawn Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, Florida. In addition to his parents, his sister Pauline Givens Besselli, his brother Reginald Harris and his sons Victor Givens and Anthony Givens all predeceased him. He is survived by his son Idress Givens (Lorene) Tampa, Florida, a brother Clarence Harris (Dr. Joyce Y. Cosby) Atlanta, Georgia, grandchildren Anthony Givens Jr., Tatiana Givens, Cash Givens, Kennedy Givens, all live in St. Petersburg, great grandchildren Chikere Brown and Jasiri Brown of St. Peterburg, Florida, sister-in-law Diane Jenkins–Harris, nephew Darren Harris (Kamilah), both of South Orange, New Jersey, nephew William Harris Miami, Florida, nephew George Harris Harlem, New York, niece Rachael Harris South Orange, New Jersey, niece Carmen Besselli Monterey, California, cousins Jean Davies (Marvin) St. Petersburg, Florida, Joi Davies St. Petersburg Florida, Robyn Anderson-Williams (Bernard) Atlanta, Georgia, Annette Abrams Tampa, Florida. Dear and everlasting friends Mr. Gary Christopher Jacksonville, Florida, Mr. Ronnie McCabe aka Tony, Mr. Bobby Faulk and Mr. Marcus Hallback. Reverend Willie Dixon (Tampa, Florida) and Silas formed a strong friendship many years ago and maintained contact over the decades. A service to Remember His Life will take place at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church on Thursday February 17, 2022, 11:00am. Pasco-Gainer Funeral Home overseeing the arrangements (850-522-8889).
