Mary Emma Harmon was born Mary E. Jones to Elvin and Mary Jones on October 11, 1937 in Dale County, Alabama. Soon after her birth, the family moved to Panama City, Fl. In her youth, she joined Second Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.
Mary was educated in the Bay County School System and graduated from Rosenwald High School in the Class of 1954. She attended college at Edward Waters University where she studied Early Childhood Education. She later received her Associates Degree from Gulf Coast Community College in 1974. She went on to work in the Bay County School System until she retired.
She met and married John J. Harmon and from that union came one son and three daughters. She raised her children as well as assisted her father in raising a number of her younger siblings. She was known for her fierce love for her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by parents, Elvin and Mary Jones, her brother, James L. Jones, her sister, Blondell Jones and her son, John Elvin Harmon..
She leaves to cherish her memory: two brothers: Ezekiel (Castella) Jones and Leon (Valinda) Jones; two sisters: Edith (Clarence) Potter and Elaine (Anderson) Edwards; one sister-in-law: Corrine Jones; three daughters: Mary Ellon (Charles) Spence, Tammis Lynette (Shelton) Roulhac, and Emily Y. Franklin; five grandchildren: Shelton Roulhac II, Brandon Harmon, Lauren (Antonio) Delaine, Kayla Franklin, Jordan Franklin and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
