Jim T. McNair, 75, of Panama City, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
He was born September 6, 1948, in Panama City, Florida, to the late Jim Tom McNair Sr and Annie Lee McNair. He attended Glenwood Elementary and graduated from Rosenwald High School in 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Luvenia Jennings McNair, and two stepchildren, Christell Marshall of Conroe, Texas, and Derrick Potter of Atlanta, Georgia. Three grandchildren, KaDarius Potter, Erin Marshall, and Klarc Marshall, and two great-grandchildren.
He was the third of eight children: sisters Luvenia Wesley, Margarettea Kirkman (Elmer), and Annice Reynolds; brother Alvin McNair. His parents, sister, Fannie Ware, and brothers Joseph McNair and Nathaniel McNair preceded him in death.
After graduating from Rosenwald High School, he worked locally and joined the United States Marine Corps. He was a decorated Master Gunnery Sergeant (E-9) who traveled the world and served for thirty years. Awards include Combat Action Ribbon; Meritorious Unit Commendation W/2 stars; Good Conduct Medal W/10 stars; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon W/1 Star; Navy Unit Commendation W/1 Star; Overseas Service Ribbon W/1 Star; National Defense Service Medal W/1 Star; and a host of Medals, Badges, and Ribbons from Vietnam. After retiring, Jim returned to Panama City, worked at Pasco Gainer Funeral Home, and was Head of Security at The Dunes of Panama for over twenty years. He was a Deacon, Finance Chairman, Male Chorus, and a faithful member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Panama City, Florida. He was also a devoted member of the Rosenwald Alumni Association and a Board Member.
Left to cherish his memories are a host of nieces, nephews, and other McNair and Jennings/Mack family members.
