Freda Hargrove

Freda Mae Hargrove was born on February 19, 1942, in Panama City, Florida. Freda was the second of six children. She received her formal education in Panama City, Florida. She lived and worked in New York City for many years. She later moved to North Carolina where she retired as a Telephone Operator from the Veterans Administration. In 2008 she moved back to Panama City, Florida. Freda affectionately known as “Dee” by her family was a very caring, loving person and was well loved by all that encountered her. We knew her as daughter, mom, grandma, auntie, sister, cousin, friend, and wife. She was an amazing person that knew how to affect each one of us in her own way. Her favorite things to past the time were being around family, dancing, attending church, and trips with family and friends to the casino. Her favorite saying was “If the good Lord is willing.” She loved the Lord, and she knew He was the orchestrator of her life. Freda departed this life on Friday, November 26, 2021, at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Florida. As a young woman, Freda Mae Balkcom married her husband of 54 years, Odis Hargrove, Sr. and to this union was born one child whom will forever cherish her precious memory, Odis Hargrove, Jr. (Zelika) of Disputanta, VA; sisters, Elsie Tally of Panama City, Fl, Evelyn Daniels of Vernon, FL; brother James “Bibba” Balkcom of Cleveland, TN; five grandsons Avery, (Krystina), Lynell, Sterling, Quinton, and Gregory; and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and longtime friends, whom she loved very dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred, and Lucy Balkcolm; brothers, George Balkcom, John Balkcom; and husband Odis Hargrove, Sr.
